Author: Declan Burke, author of THE BIG O, nominated for Spinetingler 2007 Best Novel: New Voice

Interrogator: Sandra Ruttan, reviewer and interviwer with Mystery Bookspot and Spinetingler Magazine, and author of WHAT BURNS WITHIN

Violence
1 is no violence, 100 is… Wait, was there one scene without blood and gore in it?

Swearing
1 means no penance, 100 means you’re putting truckers to shame.

Sex
1 means a nun can read it without blushing and 100 is… Wait, is this actually erotica?

The Fido Factor
1 means animal lovers won’t be offended. 100 means PETA’s planning a book burning in protest.

Too Stupid To Live
1 means your characters have brains and use them, and 100 means it’s a wonder they weren’t killed 1000 times over.

Declan: 40, although one or two characters, bless ‘em, get turned up all the way to 110.

Other Sins…
“Mind you,” says Declan, “in mitigation, they’re supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, sending up the kind of coincidences you usually find in crime capers. THE BIG O would probably rate a 100 on the coincidence scale.”

Verdict: Don't let the charming smile fool you. More than half of what he says may be pure blarney.
