It may, or may not be a wrongful conviction, but you’ve been found guilty and sentenced to death. Tell us how you’ll spend your last hours.

Victim: Tom Piccirilli answers, as does CHASE, his protagonist from the forthcoming novel THE COLD SPOT

What’s on the menu for your last supper?

Tom: Full on Italian, baby, including a couple of bottles of Chianti, l'antipasto, with hot and cold appetizers such as crostini (thin slices of toasted bread with toppings such as pâté or cheese), bruschetta (bread dipped in olive oil and covered with diced tomatoes and basil), and mozzarella in carrozza (fried mozzarella squares). Il primo, which usually consists of pasta, minestrone, risotto, and soup. Il secondo which is the main course—sausages, poultry, and fish. Il contorno which consists of vegetables such as melanzane (eggplant), spinach, and mixed salad. Il dolce, the dessert, which must include such favorite sweets as tiramisù, torta della nonna (custard shortbread pie), or zabaglione (custard of egg yolks with wine and brandy).

Chase: Chase will skip the meal and go out of this world hungry.

Priest, prostitute, lawyer, lover? Who’s your last visitor.

Tom: Hell, invite them all, we’ll have a big party.

Chase would want to see his two-year-old aunt Kylie (yes, you read that right).

What’s the last book you’d choose to read?

Tom: Houdini’s Secrets of Escape

Chase: The Wheelman by Duane Swierczynski

Given the choice, what’s your preferred method of execution?

Tom: Old Age.

Chase: Crackup on the Autobahn in a classic GTO hitting at least 180mph.
Ideally, what will it say on your headstone or in your obituary?

Tom: “Today millions mourned the loss of the modern age’s bestselling author Tom Piccirill, who passed on in his sleep at the age of 107, his 19-year-old bride at his side.”

Chase:
Here lies CHASE,
he nearly made it

Bio: Tom Piccirilli is the author of seventeen novels including THE MIDNIGHT ROAD, HELLBOY: EMERALD HELL, THE DEAD LETTERS, HEADSTONE CITY, A CHOIR OF ILL CHILDREN, and NOVEMBER MOURNS.
