Name: John Rickards

Where do you write? Can you write when traveling?
Usually at my local pub. Sit at the bar with my laptop, surrounded by builders, guzzling Red Bull. I can and have written perfectly well while traveling – on trains, in hotels, whatever. I’m not precious about my environment; so long as my missus and my little boy aren’t around (very distracting), I’m happy.

Can you work with music or the tv on?

Can, have and do, when I’m working at home.

What are the five things you must have when you’re working?

A computer, some idea of what I’m doing and not being the one responsible for keeping the baby entertained and happy. Anything else is just an optional extra.

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever been when struck by a flash of inspiration and started scribbling notes down for a story idea?

No idea. I lead a terribly dull and uninteresting life. Probably the shower. I’m that exotic, me.
