A mass gravesite unearthed on the Appalachian Trail puts FBI Agent Kelly Jones at the head of an investigation that crosses the line—from Massachusetts to Vermont, from wealthy vacationers to poor transients, from a serial killer to a copycat nemesis.

That's the teaser for Michelle Gagnon's latest novel, BONE YARD. Here at Lie Detector, we've put her up against her agent, Lukas Ortiz, to rate the sins of the novel.

Violence: 1 is no violence, 100 is… Wait, was there one scene without blood and gore in it?

Michelle: 75. There are many scenes with no blood and gore, but the ones that do have it are absolutely gruesome.

Lukas: 93. Anytime the body count goes into double-digits, and many of them are tortured, including being one water-boarded, I believe it goes into A-grade for violence.

Swearing: 1 means no penance, 100 means you’re putting truckers to shame.

Michelle: 60. The prologue is narrated by a twenty-one year-old kid, so that scene is particularly laden with expletives.

Lukas: 30. There's swearing scattered throughout the novel. Characters do so according to their temper and due to the circumstances.

Sex: 1 means a nun can read it without blushing and 100 is… Wait, is this actually erotica?

Michelle: 10. I hint at sexual encounters, but all in all it’s pretty chaste.

Lukas: 10. I agree with the answer above.

The Fido Factor: 1 means animal lovers won’t be offended. 100 means PETA’s planning a book burning in protest.

Michelle: 50. A bear survives, but a raccoon is not quite as fortunate.

Lukas: 5. I don't think that animal lovers would have a problem. This should stay in the single-digits.

Too Stupid To Live: 1 means your characters have brains and use them, and 100 means it’s a wonder they weren’t killed 1000 times over.

Michelle: 10. Most of my characters are pretty savvy.

Lukas: 10. I agree with the answer above.

Conclusion: Michelle might be a bit hard on herself. Either that, or Lukas is pretty generous! If you've read the book, add your thoughts in our forum: http://www.fantasybookspot.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=67&sid=bf1d677db99b...
