It may, or may not be a wrongful conviction, but you’ve been found guilty and sentenced to death. Tell us how you’ll spend your last hours.
Victim:
A certain book reviewer who shall remain nameless. In terms of how she died, well…did you see Braveheart, where William Wallace was hanged, drawn and quartered, eviscerated, beheaded, and cut in four parts? It went down like that…
What’s on the menu for your last supper?
Fried chicken, absolutely, since the calories won’t matter. A vanilla shake, strawberry ice cream, beignets, and chocolate for the same reason. And popcorn, all different kinds: with butter and salt, sweetened kettle corn, garlicky…bring it on. I fully intend to make myself ill.
Priest, prostitute, lawyer, lover? Who’s your last visitor?
Tough one. Definitely none of the above, and probably not my mother either because the last words you want to hear are not, “I told you so.” Ideally, I’d have to say a genie. Those three wishes would come in pretty handy right about then.
What’s the last book you’d choose to read?
This might be the hardest question (for me, at least). I’m not one of those people who enjoys re-reading books, so with the last one I’d probably feel compelled to tackle something new. But then, of course, it’s a gamble: what if I hate it? I think above all else, I’d prefer something that would make me laugh, to help distract me from the impending doom. If I haven’t already read it, sign me up for David Sedaris’s latest offering.
Given the choice, what’s your preferred method of execution?
I’m guessing dying quietly in my sleep is not an option, so…I’d have to say lethal injection. Everything else is way too gruesome.
Ideally, what will it say on your headstone or in your obituary?
Michelle gave it her best shot.
